Until recently, my artwork explored and was influenced by New Mexico’s landscapes, brilliant open skies, huge mountains, mystical horizons, colorful sunsets and ancient architecture of the American Southwest. About five years ago my work became angular and much darker and led the way to my discovery of the mark-making process before starting a painting. This new pre-painting approach is now a constant factor in my artwork. Intuition overcomes intention and becomes inspirational. It creates an energy and a voice. The mark-making produces new forms and abstractions that may at first appear messy and perhaps complicated, but this process provides for a conversation to surface with ideas and a new narrative.
